I am so excited to share The Review Chronicles' first pick of the summer read! And the winner is.... The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han! I cannot WAIT to see what happens in this destined-for-summer read!
Belly measures her life in summers. Everything good, everything magical happens between the months of June and August. Winters are simply a time to count the weeks until the next summer, a place away from the beach house, away from Susannah, and most importantly, away from Jeremiah and Conrad. They are the boys that Belly has known since her very first summer--they have been her brother figures, her crushes, and everything in between. But one summer, one terrible and wonderful summer, the more everything changes, the more it all ends up just the way it should have been all along.
Hello readers! This is the second book in the Full Moon O Sagashite series, and I can't wait to continue on reading with the series! A friend recommended it to me, and I honestly love the romance and the dreams coming true for Mitsuki! :) Can't wait to read the rest!
Mitsuki loves singing, but a malignant tumor in her throat has prevented her from pursuing her passion. However, Mitsuki's life turns around when two fun-loving Shinigami appear to grant her a temporary reprieve from her illness - and give her singing career a magical jump-start. Now that Mitsuki has debuted in the pop world, she is faced with the dark side of the glitz and glamour - petty jealousy and scheming that just might be her undoing. Will her love for Eichi be enough to keep her on the road to stardom? Or will the schemes of a mysterious new Shinigami stop her dreams short?
Three things that I love about manga are that they are always coming up with new story lines, the drawings are always different, and the names are always different! Arisa seems like a good story so far, and I can't wait to finish it! :) It seems to be a mystery, which I haven't yet read. As well, it is very intriguing! :)
Tsubasa thinks that her pretty and popular twin sister, Arisa, has the perfect life. Everyone at school loves Arisa—unlike the hot-tempered Tsubasa, whose nickname is “the Demon Princess.” But when Arisa attempts suicide, Tsubasa learns that her seemingly perfect sister has been keeping some dark secrets. Now Tsubasa is going undercover at school—disguised as Arisa—in search of the truth. But will Arisa’s secrets shatter Tsubasa’s life, too?
I cannot wait to start this book because it sounds so sweet and remember to try it out.
The manga adaptation of the all-time best selling novel in Japan! Affectionately known as "Sekachu" in Japan, SOCRATES IN LOVE became a national sensation bringing innocent love and romance to the forefront of Japan''s ultra-hip mass market. A sweet high school romance between an average guy and a beautiful girl has just gotten underway. But tragedy ensues when the girl falls ill with leukemia. A bittersweet tale of young love, enduring devotion, and heartbreaking loss, Socrates in Love is a story to cherish and nurture.
I can't believe that this is the end of Ultra Maniac for me! It was a GREAT series, and I enjoyed the ending! I ended up liking Sayaka, because I found out the truth about her! I really recommend this series to manga fans, and even those who aren't yet familiar with the wonderful world of manga!
Shy Ayu Tateishi has just made a new friend at school. But this new friend, much to her surprise, is no ordinary classmate. Nina Sakura may look like a normal middle school girl, but she's got a big secret.
You're curled up with a good book on the beach, just reading there with a good beach read. It's the summer, the weather's beautiful, and the waves are so close - you can almost feel them. I love summer reading, and I declare this summer to be the "Summer of Great Reading" or SGR! :) I will have a new tab on the Meet Aria tab this summer to include all my summer reads so that you readers will have fresh new reads to read for your summer reading. On the top of my head, I remember two good summer reads you might want to start off with. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE these two books, and they are from my bookshelf. Look below for the two, why I loved them, and their summaries. Enjoy! :)
Absolutely Normal Chaos by Sharon Creech. Beautiful novel, and one of my favourites. It was packed with everything I love in a read, which is love, mystery, sadness, and a twist to the story. I ended up LOVING it!
This is the summer journal of thirteen-year-old Mary Lou Finney, whose 'absolutely normal chaos' includes life with her three brothers, her sister, and her parents, along with her sometimes best-friend Beth Ann, and Alex Cheevey. When Mary Lou's country cousin, Carl Ray, comes to town, he not only adds to the chaos, but he also brings along his own mystery.
Making Waves by H.B. Gilmour and Randi Resfield was AH-MAZING to say the least. It had mystery, friendship, and more! Best Candy Apple book I have ever read. It was a beautiful story, and I LOVED IT!
Emily, Jenna, and LJ have been a trio forever. So when new girl Aubrey shows up at the summer pool, they're ready to make room for a fourth! Aubrey is friendly, bubbly, and definitely has that it factor. But then she starts ditching the girls at the last minute, and makes lots of lame excuses when she can't hang out.
Could Aubrey have a secret? And will Emily and her friends stick around long enough to find out what it is?
OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! Could you believe that season premiere! It was so wonderful!!! I loved loved loved loved LOVED it!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) The poster was also very cool by the way. The season premiere started of exactly where it was left off, and that was awesome. So many questions left for us though! Is Ezria done? Will Spoby have to have secret meetings? Is Haleb done? Is Emily moving? So many questions, so little answers.
Plus, I also thought that the clinical psychologist is not trustworthy. I think she might have something to do with A. Plus, wasn't it freaky how A erased ALL THE INFO off Emily's laptop? Freaky, huh?! :) Hope you liked the season premiere of PLL, and tune in on Tuesday on ABC Family or MuchMusic for the next episode called "The Goodbye Look." :) Plus, look below for the MuchMusic promo for next week below!
Since a manga series will be ending for me (which is Ultra Maniac), I have decided to start another one called We Were There. I am especially happy that I picked this up, because it really connects with you inside. So far, I am loving it, because you can really understand it, and I really love it! :) Shojo Beat has some really good manga! (:
Nanami Takahashi falls for Motoharu Yano, the most popular, carefree boy in class. For Nanami, it's first love, but Yano is still grieving the death of his girlfriend who died the year before. Nanami starts high school with high hopes of making lots of friends. She develops a crush on the enigmatic Yano, but he may have too many secrets for her to handle.
Ultra Maniac 4 was unstoppable in it's suspense, romance, and more! I absolutely loved it! Look below for the summary! And I CAN'T WAIT to read Ultra Maniac 5! It's going to be amazing!
Unfortunately, Nina is finding out that going to school on Earth is a lot more complicated than she first thought. Not everybody is glad to have a spunky (and cute) witch flitting about campus. A girl named Sayaka, for example, has recently become obsessed with Nina. A half-witch herself, Sayaka is jealous that her new classmate is stealing all the attention away from her. Like they say in the Magic Kingdom, "There's no fury like that of a teenage witch ignored!"
Bay Kennish. Daphne Vasquez. Two ordinary girls. Switched at birth. The story revolves around Bay and Daphne, as they struggle to find out who they are when everything around them is changing. After Bay realizes that her blood type doesn't match her parents, six weeks later she finds out that she was switched at birth. She never really fit into her rich and proper background, and she's definitely not going to now. Daphne is a normal girl that attends a school for the hearing impaired. She became hearing impaired when she had a case of meningitis and lost her hearing. After finding out Regina (her mother) is not her biological mother, she doesn't feel confused about who she is like Bay is right now, because she always felt like she was safe and comforted by her mother, Regina. I thought that maybe the girls might hit it off, but instead of that, Bay resented that her parents were caring so much for her daughter - and her father going as far as to offer Regina $100,000 to get surgery so that Daphne can hear again. Bay feels a connection to her birth mother Regina, as she finds out that Regina had the same sort of rebellion as she did at this age. I felt very connected to both characters, and the t.v. show didn't drag on anything, which was good. I really loved both characters, and you could understand why Bay resented Daphne and thought that she was perfect. You could also understand Regina's closeness to her daughter, and why she might not want her daughter to go to a school "for hearing" as she said. There's still the question of Bay's father, which was brought up briefly to the audience. I really enjoyed the start of this series, and I hope that the next episodes will be as great as that start. Check below for Episode 2's promo, and don't forget to tune in on Monday Monday night at 8/7 central for Episode 2 of Switched at Birth!
Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.
But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.
Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?
