Bay Kennish. Daphne Vasquez. Two ordinary girls. Switched at birth. The story revolves around Bay and Daphne, as they struggle to find out who they are when everything around them is changing.
After Bay realizes that her blood type doesn't match her parents, six weeks later she finds out that she was switched at birth. She never really fit into her rich and proper background, and she's definitely not going to now.
Daphne is a normal girl that attends a school for the hearing impaired. She became hearing impaired when she had a case of meningitis and lost her hearing. After finding out Regina (her mother) is not her biological mother, she doesn't feel confused about who she is like Bay is right now, because she always felt like she was safe and comforted by her mother, Regina.
I thought that maybe the girls might hit it off, but instead of that, Bay resented that her parents were caring so much for her daughter - and her father going as far as to offer Regina $100,000 to get surgery so that Daphne can hear again.
Bay feels a connection to her birth mother Regina, as she finds out that Regina had the same sort of rebellion as she did at this age. I felt very connected to both characters, and the t.v. show didn't drag on anything, which was good. I really loved both characters, and you could understand why Bay resented Daphne and thought that she was perfect. You could also understand Regina's closeness to her daughter, and why she might not want her daughter to go to a school "for hearing" as she said. There's still the question of Bay's father, which was brought up briefly to the audience. I really enjoyed the start of this series, and I hope that the next episodes will be as great as that start. Check below for Episode 2's promo, and don't forget to tune in on Monday Monday night at 8/7 central for Episode 2 of Switched at Birth!
