Eccentric billionaire Shira Brazille founded her super-exclusive Alpha Academy on exotic Alpha Island to nurture the next generation of exceptional dancers, writers, musicians, and inventors. It's a dream come true for one hundred lucky girls, but those not measuring up will be sent home any time, for -any reason. The one left standing will win worldwide fame. Who will it be?
SKY HAMILTON
Known for her dance moves and ability to make superfast connections with boys, Sky plans on taking the alphas by storm-and lip-kissing all five of Shira's superhot sons.
ALLIE. A. ABBOTT
Is one little initial away from superstardom. So when Allie J. Abbott's invitation to Alpha Academy arrives on her doorstep, she does what any crafty girl would: commits identity theft. Can she keep up the charade?
CHARLIE DEERY
Beta-for-life Charlie is offered a last-minute place at the Academy, but there's an admission condition: dumping her boyfriend-Shira's son. It's hard to claw her way up when nintey-nine girls are waiting to stink their claws into her superhawt ex...
If at first you don't succeed, you're not an alpha.
To me (for some reason) the most important thing in a story is the characters. I don't care if the plot is somewhat bland as long as the characters are great with good bonds between them. And so, I will being my review with the characters.
Now, normally the first main character introduced is my favourite but for this story this isn't the case. Of course I loved Sky (who came first), but it was Charlie's storyline that really caught my interest. I'll get to her later but I'll start with the first character.
Sky is quite relatable, but her storyline in Alphas did not connect with The Clique series at all (except for the line that said a guy [from her past] she wanted to 'lip-kiss' had wanted Kristen Gregory instead), so I found it unnecessary to pluck her out of that series. You would expect Sky to be a total Massie but surprisingly, she wasn't. She was actually nice. She wanted to do whatever it took to make both Shira, and her mom proud (even if she bent the rules around to have some fun-with Shira's sons). Overall, Sky was a simple character and quite likable.
At first, I liked Allie but then I realized she was extremely conceited, and self-absorbed. The fact that she couldn't believe her ex-boyfriend dumped her for her best friend, because she had talent says it all. (She actually asked him why he did, because 'she herself, was a 10/10 in looks and her best friend was only a "6.5"'). And the fact that Allie's after Charlie's ex-boyfriend now didn't help her case with me at all; it just made me hate her more and more. (I read other reviews and many people hated her, so this isn't a bias opinion.) Now Allie here is a total Massie, except when you compare her to characters like Sky and Charlie it just amplifies your hatred.
When I first started Charlie's point of view I thought 'An inventor. Well that involves technology and stuff. Snore'. But when I continued reading her story, I felt an instant connection, because her feelings were so real. I mean, she had to choose between her boyfriend whom she loved so much, and a place at Shira's school which would make her mom proud and bring so much opportunity into her life. When she found out that Allie and her ex, were into each other she wanted him to be happy and stayed out of their way even when she had to the chance to get Allie kicked out of school.
That takes serious willpower.
At the end of the book there is a gigantic cliff-hanger. It's like Lisi pushed you onto a cliff so that only half of your body is still on, and you're waving your arms around frantically trying to keep your balance.
I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the next book.
Likes: Sky and Charlie's storylines.
Dislikes: ALLIE & SHIRA!
