Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol - a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.
Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she's afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she's not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol's cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can't prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.
In Catching Fire, the second novel of the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before...and surprising readers at every turn.
I really don't even know where to begin. This book absolutely blew my away and the ending was probably the biggest and best cliffhanger that I have ever read. I am shocked and the book was emotional and heart-wrenching and beautifully written.
Of course after reading The Hunger Games, I had to read more about Panem and the society that Katniss was slowly evolving. I absolutely loved every moment of the book - from the romance to the action and adventure happening at every moment. It was absolutely amazing.
I love how Katniss never fails to surprise me. She is one of my favorite heroines and she is always doing something that shocks the reader and makes us wonder how that will impact everyone else. The love she feels for everyone around her is so real and her actions are selfless and brave.
The action-by-action moments leaves the reader wanting to just keep on reading and I definitely could not put this book down. The action never failed to stop and there was always something happening to shock you and want to make you find out what choices other characters would make.
You definitely get attached to the characters and I really liked the new characters that were introduced in the story. It was really great to see the different interactions and how choices definitely affected relationships.
The ending left me definitely wanting to read Mockingjay because it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I just can't believe it and I was not expecting it.
Likes: Everything - I might fangirl too much! :)
Dislikes: Nothing! :)
*Note: This book contains some mature content.
**Note: if you want to start the series, start with The Hunger Games.
