Genre: Realistic Fiction, Drama
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn't think she's the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her "Duffy," she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren't so great at home right now. Desperate for a distraction, Bianca ends up kissing Wesley. And likes it. Eager for escape, she throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with Wesley.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out that Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
I read many mixed reviews and I'm guessing that there's no "middle" for this book. You either love it or you hate it.
I personally loved this book because I am a sucker for stories about bad boys and insecure girls. Bianca wasn't exactly what you'd call insecure but like everyone else she had her problems too.
I really liked Bianca because I could relate to her position (who hasn't felt inadequate next to their friends?) and her sarcasm. Her sarcasm is the same as mine and I loved this book's humour. However, I felt that Bianca was very stupid for throwing herself at Wesley.
That was one part of the book that I didn't think made sense. Well it made sense, but what I meant to say is that it wasn't very clear when she found Wesley attractive enough to kiss.
I really did like this book though because I could relate to Bianca's personality and humour which made it very enjoyable. The ending was perfect too!
Likes: Bianca, Wesley, Bianca's friends, etc.
Dislikes: Wesley. :P
