Sakura is the granddaughter of a mysterious moon princess who slew demons with her Blood Cherry Blossom sword. All her life Sakura has been forbidden to look at the full moon without knowing why. Then one night, unhappy over her impending marriage, Sakura gazes up at the moon, only to see a demon attacking her...
Princess Sakura has been engaged to Prince Oura since birth. Aoba, an emissary from the court, has come to accompany her move to the capital for her upcoming nuptials. Taking a dislike to Aoba and wanting to escape a life arranged by others, Sakura runs away—and finds she’s caught up to her true destiny.
Since I absolutely love Arina Tanemura from the Full Moon O Sagashite manga series and since I also haven't read a manga in so long, I decided to read her new manga series Sakura Hime: The Legend of Princess Sakura. This was the first in the series, and I am definitely glad that I read it!
There was such an interesting storyline that grabbed my attention from the start. I wanted to know why Sakura couldn't look at the moon and why she was being forced to marry Prince Oura. It was definitely a great storyline and the plot was never slow or dull. It was definitely well-crafted and a well-thought out plot.
I did feel at some times throughout the book that I couldn't connect. I wanted to see the thoughts and emotions from Sakura that made her come alive in a way. Not to say that she was a flat character, because she wasn't. I wished that the author could have shown Sakura's feelings and broaden the storyline by explaining it all.
I got a little confused with one of the characters, but the author explained it later in the storyline. I really felt that Sakura showed her courage and that she wasn't giving up. I liked that the hope was shown, and it really made the story even more interesting as it took a grand twist.
I really love Arina Tanemura's writing and storylines, and it showed in her new series. The plot twists were amazing and the new characters are definitely lovable. I felt that the characters really all had different personalities and voices and they really came together quite well. I really recommend reading this new manga series, and I look forward to the next one. :)
Likes: Sakura, Asagiri, plot twists, interesting storyline, tying the story to an old tale, drawings, the characters helping Sakura, the ending, cliffhanger
Dislikes: sometimes felt that I couldn't connect, recognizing one of the characters was confusing
*Note: This book contains some scary themes.
