Lexington Larrabee has never to work a day in her life. After all, she’s the heiress to the multi-billion-dollar Larrabee Media empire. And heiresses are not supposed to work. But then again, they’re not supposed to crash brand new Mercedes convertibles into convenience stores on Sunset Blvd either.
Which is why, on Lexi’s eighteen birthday, her ever-absent, tycoon father decides to take a more proactive approach to her wayward life. Every week for the next year, she will have to take on a different low-wage job if she ever wants to receive her beloved trust fund. But if there’s anything worse than working as a maid, a dishwasher, and a fast-food restaurant employee, it’s dealing with Luke, the arrogant, albeit moderately attractive, college intern her father has assigned to keep tabs on her.
In a hilarious “comedy of heiress” about family, forgiveness, good intentions, and best of all, second chances, Lexi learns that love can be unconditional, money can be immaterial, and, regardless of age, everyone needs a little saving. And although she might have 52 reasons to hate her father, she only needs one reason to love him.
I absolutely love love love love Jessica Brody and her writing is just unbelievably fun and unique. I absolutely loved this novel and it's definitely going to be one to remember.
I really loved Lexi and I was really happy to see that she wasn't just a stuck-up brat - the stereotype that was supposed and her friends weren't either. She had feelings and reasons for her actions and there were so many deeper layers to Lexi. It made her three-dimensional and just as Rosella said in her review, she was so relatable. Her feelings, her thoughts, and her actions made her so unique and she was just so funny.
I love how this story also included so many elements - the girly-chick-lit while still having morals and depth. I loved the mystery in the story as well as the romance and love triangle. It's definitely like a movie and it was fun to see the story play out. I never knew where it was going - and it shocked me many times.
I just thought the ending was okay but overall I loved seeing all the characters evolve and change and how the revelations and these tasks affected Lexi. It was so amazing to see the evolving story and I can't wait to read more of Jessica Brody's writing! :)
Likes: Lexi, Luke, Lexi + Luke, Horatio, the evolving story, different elements, mystery, romance, love triangle, not following a stereotype, Lexi's friends, support system,
Dislikes: how some parts of the ending played out
