Lexi is cursed with a dark secret. Each day she goes to school like a normal teenager, and each night she must swim, or the pain will be unbearable. She is a siren - a deadly mermaid destined to lure men to their watery deaths. After a terrible tragedy, Lexi shut herself off from the world, vowing to protect the ones she loves. But she soon finds herself caught between a new boy at school who may have the power to melt her icy exterior, and a handsome water spirit who says he can break Lexi's curse if she gives up everything else. Lexi is faced with the hardest decision she's ever had to make: the life she's always longed for - or the love she can't live without?
This book started out for me as a 3.5 - which was okay for me, but after Erik came into the story, I was mezmerized and in love with the story! The beginning was kind of slow, but then it became so great and so amazing I was wow-ed! :) It was so amazing, and it was thriller and action-packed in the end, which I LOVED! I love that the author had her own mythology, and included Persephone's, too. It was great to see the author really connecting to make the story believable, which it was.
I absolutely fell in love with Erik and Cole. I myself have always picked sides when it came to love triangles, but this one had me perplexed. Cole or Erik? But towards the end, you really see a clear picture of what that person really is like. And it will shock you. I was shocked. Wow, wow, wow! :)
Lexi was an amazing character. I felt really bad for her that she was cursed with such a dark secret, and her own best friend never talked to her in two years because of the incident surrounding the one death she caused - which was her best friend, Sienna's brother and her first love. The way she described Steven really showed how much she loved him. She loved him so much that she isolated herself so that she would never hurt anybody again.
The author showed the feelings of Lexi and her friends really well - and the story was AMAZING. :)
Likes: Lexi, true emotions, Cole, how Erik came into the storyline, original plot, own mythology, siren storyline, Sienna
Dislikes: slow beginning
*Note: This book contains sexual content, language, and some mild violence.
