Fifteen-year-old Isabelle Scott loves her life by the boardwalk on the supposed wrong side of the tracks in North Carolina. But when tragedy strikes, a social worker sends her to live with a long-lost uncle and his preppy privileged family. Isabelle is taken away from everything she’s ever known, and, unfortunately, inserting her into the glamorous lifestyle of Emerald Cove doesn’t go so well. Her cousin Mirabelle Monroe isn’t thrilled to share her life with an outsider, and, in addition to dealing with all the rumors and backstabbing that lurk beneath their classmates’ Southern charm, a secret is unfolding that will change both girls’ lives forever.
Oh my gosh! I cannot say enough great things about Belles by Jen Calonita. This book managed to capture my attention and left me flipping pages until the jaw-dropping conclusion. It was truly a wonderful and amazing storyline, and I absolutely await the sequel!
What I truly enjoyed about the story-line was that it managed to avoid all the common cliches. Things that I expected the characters to do didn't happen, but instead the author took a different road that always kept the plot interesting and jaw-dropping at every turn.
The plot was well-paced and there was always something new going on. The characters were extremely witty and I'm glad the author decided to avoid common cliche characters that could be expected. Mira and Izzie were both lovely characters and the author showed how different they truly were, but there is one secret that will change everything they've ever known.
The plot was really unique and I really liked that the author dived into the story with different things happening at each turn. It truly made the story unique and I loved the plot twist! It was truly amazing. As soon as Izzie came into the picture, the plot kept me flipping the pages and I could not put the book down until the amazing conclusion.
The characters were really three-dimensional. Their strongest and weakest points, their interactions with other characters, and their feelings and thoughts were shown and made them realistic and amazing. The story was really well-crafted and incorporated so many different things that made it stand out and be truly unique. The drama, the scandal, and the romance was great and made the story so realistic.
The plot was wrapped up really well and I was really glad where the author left the story, both a satisfying conclusion and something to read the readers on their toes for the sequel! I can't wait to read the next novel! :)
Likes: The characters, the plot, the romance, Izzie, Mira, Brayden, Kellen, the plot twists, conclusion, interesting throughout, always something new happening, avoid common cliches, character development
Dislikes: Nothing. :)
