It's been two years since Conrad told Belly to go with Jeremiah. She and Jeremiah have been inseparable ever since, even attending the same college-- only, their relationship hasn't exactly been the happily ever after Belly had hoped it would be. And when Jeremiah makes the worst mistake a boy can make, Belly is forced to question what she thought was true love. Does she really have a future with Jeremiah? Has she ever gotten over Conrad? It's time for Belly to decide, once and for all, who has her heart forever.
This book just...I don't have a steady opinion on it. The plot kep twisting, and ugh. I'm going to try my best to keep this spoiler free, but I probably will slip here and there. You've been warned.
This book skipped ahead a bit, so that Belly, and Jeremiah were both at university. They were dating, and completely happy. Until Belly found out that Jeremiah cheated--well it's unclear if Jeremiah actually cheated. Belly and Jeremiah were in a fight, Belly was under the impression that it was just a fight, while Jeremiah thought they sort of broke up. Anyways, that put a damper on the relationship. Belly was so heartbroken since her relationships with neither of the Fisher boys had gone well. Randomly (well at least to the reader), Jeremiah proposes within those few days, and Belly ACCEPTS.
So I had a few problems with this book, to be honest. I never would have thought that Jeremiah would cheat. I know that it's supposed to be 'realistic' and completely unexpected, but it seemed very out of character. Actually throughout the entire series, I felt like I figured out both Conrad, and Jeremiah, but then the lines would blur and they felt sort of similar in character. Basically, in summary, Jeremiah was always the best friend who she could always count on, and Conrad, was the one who was always there for her in his own way. Sound similar? Yeah, that's why I'm confused.
Anyways, Jeremiah was always the lighthearted, joker. The fun guy who wouldn't judge you. In this book, he just seemed so...unlike himself. It was like some other character with the same name, came into the plot, and I wasn't clued in. Jeremiah was also very suspicious, and doubtful about Belly and Conrad which was also annoying, and so sad. Jeremiah was ruined for me. And that broke my heart. Not because my preferred couple was a mess, but because Jeremiah as a character was ruined for me. I will never be able to see him as the boy that made her laugh. Instead, he's the boy who wasn't who I thought he was. Conrad ends up as the boy who Belly always thought he was.
I was just really upset with how the book turned out. I love all three of them, (and Steven of course), and I would've been happy with whoever Belly ended up with. But there was no need to change the boys so drastically. There was no need, to make Jeremiah seem horrible so that he and Conrad were on even footing. That was completely unfair.
Susannah wrote each of them a letter, before she died. It was supposed to be read on their wedding day. When Jeremiah read his, he realized that there was a mistake and he had Conrad's. He wasn't very happy with the content. Susannah also knew who Belly would end up with, and then it makes me think, that it was obvious from the very start.
Before the epilogue, it was declared that Jeremiah and Conrad 'weren't brothers anymore'. And it's not clearly mentioned, if they patched things up eventually. I hope they did. I know that it would've been difficult, but that they loved each other enough to fix it.
Likes: Belly's ability to act like a childish, yet mature lady. (I didn't know that was possible to pull off).
Dislikes: Jeremiahs' ruined character, the broken bond between Conrad and Jeremiah.
