After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny – with a little help from her new vampyre friends (or Nerd Herd, as Aphrodite calls them).
I watched a video review for this book, and immediately wanted to read this once the comparison 'a vampire Hogwarts' was made.
The 'House of Night' was not exactly a vampire Hogwarts but it definitely was an amazing boarding school. I really enjoyed this book because of its characters, and background story.
What I was a bit confused with at first was the fact that the humans knew about vampires. I had no idea how that worked, and it never really was explained. But, I did really enjoy the back story, and the rituals and the school in general.
I also did not really understand, or feel or the connection between Eric and Zoey. To me it felt quite random, and I did not see how they seemed to connect. Hopefully, the next book will help me understand how they relate to each other.
I absolutely loved Stevie Rae and her group of friends. They all had unique personalities and were quite comical. I especially loved the banter between the 'Twins' and Damien. I did not like Aphrodite at all and thought she was quite a b*tch. She acted like she was all high and mighty, and I, to be quite honest, thought she was ridiculous.
Anyways, this is a really good book and I think you guys might quite enjoy it!
Warning: Contains sexual themes, and foul language.
Likes: Zoey, Stevie Rae, Damien, Eric, Erin, Shaunee, Neferet, Grandma Redbird, etc.
Dislikes: Aphrodite, Kayla, Heath, John, etc.
